Softball Recap: Sparta Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Sparta and DuQuoin, and DuQuoin kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Kenzie Pierce was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Emma Stork, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Sparta's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for DuQuoin, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-16 record this season.

Sparta and DuQuoin could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 379th) will meet Red Bud (ranked 116th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, DuQuoin will challenge Anna-Jonesboro at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (447 vs. 41).
