Basketball Recap: Capital Prep Takes a Loss

Capital Prep won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They were outmatched by the Bristol Eastern Lancers and fell 85-52. The Trailblazers were probably out for revenge after losing 80-44 to them when the teams met back in March, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Capital Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Syre Gillespie posted 33 points. That was a full 63.5% of Capital Prep's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Javaris Spencer was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 21 boards.

Capital Prep's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Bristol Eastern, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Capital Prep will face off against Weaver at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Capital Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season. As for Bristol Eastern, they will welcome Plainville at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.
