Soccer Game Preview: Lake Stevens vs. Glacier Peak

The Lake Stevens Vikings will square off against the Glacier Peak Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Lake Stevens is headed into Friday's contest hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Kamiak. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lake Stevens came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Washington soccer rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Kamiak are ranked 111th).

Meanwhile, it may have taken extra minutes to finish the job, but Glacier Peak ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Arlington. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Glacier Peak were the better team in the second half.

Lake Stevens' defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 11-2. As for Glacier Peak, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5-1.

Lake Stevens came out on top in a nail-biter against Glacier Peak in their previous meeting on April 4th, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
