Basketball Recap: McDonald County Comes Up Short

McDonald County was the 67-36 winner over Mt. Vernon when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The McDonald County Mustangs were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 50-49 to the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

McDonald County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlie Martin, who posted 17 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That's the most points Martin has posted since back in December of 2024. Dakota O'Brien was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine boards.

McDonald County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Mt. Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.

McDonald County has already played their next match (against Lamar), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mt. Vernon has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against East Newton.
