Softball Recap: Apple Valley Sets Scoring Season-High Against Victor Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apple Valley). They put the hurt on the Victor Valley Jackrabbits with a sharp 18-2 win on Monday. Considering the Sun Devils have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

LIZA LOZANO and MAKAYLEE CERF were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, LOZANO struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, CERF tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, LOZANO scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while CERF scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Apple Valley got a massive performance out of MADISON BUZZARD, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. BROOKE JOHNSON was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Apple Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The victory was the third in a row for Apple Valley, bringing their record for this year to 6-3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Victor Valley, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Apple Valley will square off against Orange Vista at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Orange Vista has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.75 runs per game on average), something Apple Valley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Victor Valley, they will challenge Serrano at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
