Basketball Game Preview: Newhalen Malamutes vs. Shaktoolik Wolverines

Having just played yesterday, the Newhalen Malamutes will jump right back in to play the Shaktoolik Wolverines at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Newhalen comes in on 11 and Shaktoolik on 16.

Newhalen is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with a 51-42 win over Shishmaref.

Shaktoolik meant business on Thursday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Braves squad that has allowed just 26.33 points per contest. Shaktoolik enjoyed a cozy 55-37 victory over Hoonah.

Newhalen's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points over those games. As for Shaktoolik, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.

Newhalen came out on top in a nail-biter against Shaktoolik in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, sneaking past 46-43. Does Newhalen have another victory up their sleeve, or will Shaktoolik turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
