Softball Recap: York Catholic Fighting Irish vs. York County Tech Spartans
York Catholic had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-11 to make it 11. They lost 17-7 to the York County Tech Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-2 back in March.
As for York County Tech, their record now sits at 5-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.
For York County Tech's part, Allie Wersinger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Wersinger was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, York County Tech got a massive performance out of Anna Juliano, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Juliano a new career-high. Jordynn Leiphart was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
While York Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
