Basketball Preview: Independent Panthers vs. Cheney Cardinals
Independent is 1-9 against the Cardinals since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Independent Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Cheney Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Independent comes in on four and the Cardinals on ten.
Last Friday, Independent beat the Eagles 48-35. Given Independent's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Eagles are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Cheney put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Garden Plain with a sharp 73-50 win. 73 seems to be a good number for Cheney as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Independent's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Cheney, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Independent was able to grind out a solid victory over the Cardinals in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 58-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Independent since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
