Baseball Recap: St. Mary Central Catholic Comes Up Short

St. Mary Central Catholic lost against Gibsonburg back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Panthers fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 5-4.

St. Mary Central Catholic got a good showing from Toby Gibson, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gibson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cayden Wikel and Blake Finneran did some serious damage despite the final result: Wikel went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Finneran got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

St. Mary Central Catholic dropped their record down to 11-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Gibsonburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6.

The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 4.1, the Chieftains 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Gibsonburg will challenge rival Old Fort at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
