Basketball Game Preview: Euclid Panthers vs. Shaw Cardinals

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers take on the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Euclid knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Shaw likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Euclid came up short against Shaker Heights and fell 83-75. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (68), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Euclid got top-tier performance from Thai Duncan, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine boards. Duncan's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points. Kye Owens was another key player, putting up 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Shaw played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Lorain, falling 64-42. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while the Titans are ranked 293rd).

Shaw's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Euclid, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Euclid came out on top in a nail-biter against Shaw in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, sneaking past 75-73. The rematch might be a little tougher for Euclid since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
