Gilbert Christian (Gilbert, Ariz.) received a huge boost from its defense against Ash Fork (Ariz.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Ash Fork (Ariz.), 70-0.
The Knights were up 48-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Corbin Young in the first quarter.
Gilbert Christian expanded its lead to 56 points entering the fourth quarter. GC scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by
Trey Gass to
Saile Daimwood.
Even though the Gilbert school led by 56 points entering the fourth quarter, it poured the points on, scoring 14 in the fourth.
Gass played well for the Knights in the victory. The senior threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game Gilbert Christian had allowed 24.7 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Spartans well below their season average of 14.9 points scored per game.
The Knights also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 61-2.
With the win Gilbert Christian extended its winning streak to three games.
