Basketball Recap: South Putnam Comes Up Short

South Putnam lost against Greencastle back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The South Putnam Eagles took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greencastle Tiger Cubs. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while the Tiger Cubs are ranked 110th).

When it comes to explaining why South Putnam lost, don't look at Khalil Jefferson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Jefferson has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Switzer, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 12 points.

Greencastle's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nathan Sutherlin, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 21 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevin Long, who went 6-for-9 en route to 19 points.

South Putnam's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Greencastle, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

South Putnam wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 78-58 defeat against Southmont on the 18th. As for Greencastle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-48 loss against Cascade on the 18th.
