Softball Recap: Monroe Vikings vs. North Hollywood Huskies
Monroe extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-12. They lost 22-0 to the North Hollywood Huskies. Considering the last time the Vikings couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
As for North Hollywood, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For North Hollywood's part, Kaiya Mendoza was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Mendoza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Dayani Villeda was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Ayla Soto was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
