Basketball Recap: Lexington School for the Deaf Comes Up Short

Lexington School for the Deaf lost against Marie Philip back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Lexington School for the Deaf Blue Jays were outmatched by the Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts and fell 54-26. While losing is never fun, the Blue Jays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 805th, while the Galloping Ghosts are ranked 59th).

Lexington School for the Deaf's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juan Valdez, who went 5-for-9 en route to 12 points. That's the most points Valdez has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Abraham Pereda, who earned nine points.

Even though they lost, Lexington School for the Deaf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Xavier DeLeon, who went 10-for-21 to rack up 23 points along with seven rebounds and five steals for Marie Philip. DeLeon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 56 games he's played dating back to last season. Alexander Forfa was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Lexington School for the Deaf has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Marie Philip and bumps their season record up to 17-9.

Lexington School for the Deaf wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-40 defeat against Ohio School for the Deaf on the 23rd. As for Marie Philip, they have also already played their next matchup, a 39-35 victory against American School for the Deaf on the 23rd.
