Softball Recap: Douglas County Huskies vs. Smoky Hill Buffaloes

Douglas County entered their tilt with Smoky Hill on Thursday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They skirted past the Smoky Hill Buffaloes 14-12. While the Huskies didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Douglas County got a massive performance out of Grace Huber, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run. The team also got some help courtesy of Devayah Pineda, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Douglas County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in September of 2023.

Douglas County's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for Smoky Hill, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Douglas County will welcome Horizon at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Douglas County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.6 runs per game this season. As for Smoky Hill, they will face off against ThunderRidge at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
