Softball Recap: Santa Fe Trail Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Santa Fe Trail came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Osawatomie Trojans a 10-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Chargers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Gretchen Huizenga made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Santa Fe Trail let Reese Black and Brooke Neidhardt run wild. Black went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Neidhardt scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Black a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Ganger, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Santa Fe Trail hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Osawatomie struck out eight times.

Santa Fe Trail's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Osawatomie, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Santa Fe Trail beat the Trojans by a score of 13-2 later that day.
