Softball Game Preview: Antigo Red Robins vs. Lakeland Thunderbirds

The Antigo Red Robins are taking a road trip to square off against the Lakeland Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Antigo 3.8, Lakeland 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Antigo is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Mosinee on Tuesday. They came up short against the Indians, falling 6-0. The Red Robins haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Antigo saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Beck, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Tristin Arlen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Lakeland waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Hatchets.

Lakeland pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Antigo, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Antigo couldn't quite finish off Lakeland in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Red Robins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
