Basketball Recap: Severn Run Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Sebastian Richards and Jayden Gonzalez

Severn Run came up short against the Arundel Wildcats on Friday, falling 77-53. While losing is never fun, Severn Run can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 238th, while Arundel is ranked 62nd).

Jayden Gonzalez and Sebastian Richards certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Gonzalez went 7 for 9 en route to 21 points, while Richards went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points and five boards.

Arundel's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellis Johnson, who went 7 for 17 en route to 21 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Javeon Reed, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten steals.

Severn Run's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Arundel, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Severn Run has already played their next contest (against Southern), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Arundel Wildcats challenge the Chesapeake Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Chesapeake has lost five straight at home , while Arundel has lost three on the road.
