Basketball Recap: Mecklenburg County Takes a Loss

Mecklenburg County lost against George Washington back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Mecklenburg County Phoenix were dealt a 96-45 defeat at the hands of the George Washington Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Eagles are ranked 21st).

Mecklenburg County moved to 7-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for George Washington, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Mecklenburg County is facing Jefferson Forest at the right time seeing as Jefferson Forest is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
