Basketball Game Preview: Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils vs. Pelham Panthers

Mortimer Jordan hasn't had much luck against Pelham recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils will head out to square off against the Pelham Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Mortimer Jordan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Pelham likes a good challenge.

Mortimer Jordan is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their matchup on Saturday with ease, bagging a 74-40 win over Addison. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Meanwhile, Pelham hadn't done well against Mountain Brook recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Pelham managed a 39-35 win over Mountain Brook. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Spartans are ranked 16th).

Mortimer Jordan is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Pelham, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Mortimer Jordan lost to Pelham on the road by a decisive 70-52 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Mortimer Jordan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
