Volleyball Recap: Somerset Academy - Canyons' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Coral Springs Charter, Somerset Academy - Canyons was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Atlantic Christian Sharks by a score of 3-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their four-match losing streak.

The victory didn't come easy: Atlantic Christian scored at least 19 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23.

Somerset Academy - Canyons found their leader in freshman Avery Wood, who had 12 kills and three aces. Those 12 kills set a new season-high mark for Wood. Sara San Giovanni was another key player, getting 15 assists and two aces.

Somerset Academy - Canyons was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. They are 3-1 when they serve at least ten aces.

When it comes to explaining why Atlantic Christian lost, don't look at Neenah Harripersaud. Despite the final result, she had ten digs and five aces. Harripersaud has been hot recently, having also posted 20 or more assists the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Gonzalez, who had 11 digs and two aces.

Somerset Academy - Canyons' win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Atlantic Christian, they dropped their record down to 11-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Somerset Academy - Canyons didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Westminster Academy on the 3rd. As for Atlantic Christian, after both having extra time off, they and Morningside Academy will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
