Baseball Recap: Highland Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hammond Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highland). Everything went their way against the Hammond Central Wolves on Thursday as they made off with a 17-2 victory. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Caden VanderMeyden looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Nate Phillips was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Caden Quigg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Highland's record is now 4-7. As for Hammond Central, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4-1.

Looking ahead, Highland will venture away from home to square off against Andrean at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hammond Central, they will challenge Calumet Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight.
