Basketball Recap: Asheboro Comes Up Short

Asheboro lost against Uwharrie Charter Academy two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Asheboro Blue Comets had to suffer through a 52-18 loss at the hands of the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Blue Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 386th, while the Eagles are ranked 107th).

Despite the defeat, Asheboro had strong showings from A'Mya Mosby, who posted four points and six rebounds, and Katie Jones, who had a point and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mosby a new career-high in rebounds.

Even though they lost, Asheboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Uwharrie Charter Academy only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.

Uwharrie Charter Academy found their leader in sophomore Kayla Brown, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards set a new season-high mark for Brown. Lainey Thomas was another key player, putting up 14 points and five boards.

Asheboro's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-2.

Asheboro wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 66-43 defeat against Williams on the 26th. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-26 victory against Trinity on the 20th.
