Preview: Waterford Ravens vs. American Prep WV Eagles
Waterford is 10-0 against American Prep WV since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Waterford Ravens will look to defend their home court against the American Prep WV Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Waterford has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
A well-balanced attack led Waterford over Rowland Hall in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Waterford blew Rowland Hall out of the water with a 44-16 final score. The win was just what Waterford needed coming off of a 94-40 defeat in their prior matchup.
Anne Howard was her usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana Holtey, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, American Prep WV's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 55-29 walloping at the hands of Intermountain Christian. American Prep WV has struggled against Intermountain Christian recently, as their contest on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
American Prep WV's defeat came about despite a quality game from Nicole Tran, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 44.8% of American Prep WV's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Waterford's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for American Prep WV, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Waterford have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for American Prep WV, though, as they've been averaging only 12.6 rebounds per game. Given Waterford's sizable advantage in that area, American Prep WV will need to find a way to close that gap.
Waterford didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against American Prep WV when the teams last played back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 29-25 win.
