The Grandview Wolves are taking a road trip to take on the Vista PEAK Prep Bison at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Grandview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Grandview fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Grand Junction on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-6.
Grandview got a good showing from Jackson Smith, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Bryson Bellapianta and Jackson Bernosky stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bellapianta went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Bernosky went 2-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. AJ Maroni was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Vista PEAK Prep was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They blew past Montbello 13-3. Considering the Bison's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
The team relied heavily on Karter Robertson, who fired off three home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Domenic Montoya also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.
Vista PEAK Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montbello only posted an OBP of .375.
Vista PEAK Prep's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Grandview, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grandview has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Vista PEAK Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Grandview's way against Vista PEAK Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Grandview made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
