Basketball Game Preview: Gem State Adventist Academy Jaguars vs. Notus Pirates

The Gem State Adventist Academy Jaguars will venture away from home to face off against the Notus Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

It was a proper cat-fight when Gem State Adventist Academy challenged Wilder on Thursday. Gem State Adventist Academy took a 50-36 bruising from Wilder. While the Jaguars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wildcats 14-5 in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Notus came up short against Compass Charter on Friday and fell 63-53.

Gem State Adventist Academy will have to contain Luis Vargas as he made an impact in Notus' last game. He went 9 for 17 en route to 24 points and six rebounds. That's the most points Vargas has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nico Martinez, who earned eight points and five boards.

Gem State Adventist Academy's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Notus, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season.

Gem State Adventist Academy took a serious blow against Notus in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 70-25. Can Gem State Adventist Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
