Basketball Recap: Portage Falls Short of Crown Point in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Portage couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell to the Crown Point Bulldogs 68-62. The Indians' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Loss or not, Portage got some senior leadership from Michael Wellman and Garrett Clark. Wellman went 7-for-14 to rack up 20 points, while Clark shot 56% from the field on his way to 15 points. Wellman continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Sam Wellman also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Portage's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Crown Point, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-2.

Portage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Crown Point, they will challenge Homestead at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Crown Point has given up an average of 50.8 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
