Mackinaw City dropped their record down to 16-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Newberry Indians by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Comets have suffered since May 2, 2024.

As for Newberry, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

For Newberry's part, Matthew Rahilly made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Rahilly was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Rahilly wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Patterson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
