Avocado - West recap September 4, 2013

Carlsbad took down Great Oak 41-17 last week, the largest margin of any game. Christian Chapman threw for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 26 yards during the win.

La Costa Canyon made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,019 from 2,264. The advance stemmed from a 17-9 victory over Santa Fe Christian last week.

Chapman and Dylan Rutledge gave the Lancers a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Damaris Pulido Christovale also contributed to the rushing game with 64 yards on the ground.

Chapman put up the best numbers through the air as Thadd MacNeal's team defeated the Wolfpack. Chapman's favorite target this week was Jordan Perez, who caught 3 passes for 77 yards.

Nate Johnson was the best receiver in Avocado - West this week as Vista fell to La Serna. Johnson tallied 3 receptions for 105 yards. Ryan Lasua helped Vista's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 32 yards.

He was 10-14 with 1 interceptions.

Rutledge was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 83 yards on 6 carries as the Lancers lost to the Lancers.

Thanks to the talents of Chapman and Rutledge, Carlsbad has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Chapman leads the league in passing with 180 yards, while Rutledge has rushed for 83 yards this season. Tops in the league in receving yards is Vista's Johnson, with 105 yards on 3 catches.

Oceanside led the league in scoring this week after putting up 47 points on St. Augustine.
