Recap: Durant Cougars vs. Wharton Wildcats
After a string of five wins, the Durant Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They suffered a rough 62-42 defeat at the hands of Wharton. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Durant has scored all season.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Wylde Correa, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Correa hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Austin White, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Wharton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aj Jones out in front who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Nick Womack was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Durant's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4. As for Wharton, they pushed their record up to 11-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Durant won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Spoto at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Spoto focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. Wharton won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Strawberry Crest at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Strawberry Crest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 700th, while Wharton is ranked 160th).
