Basketball Game Preview: Groesbeck Goats vs. Mexia Black Cats

The Groesbeck Goats will square off against the Mexia Black Cats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, Groesbeck had to suffer through a 92-29 loss at the hands of Westwood. While losing is never fun, the Goats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1063rd, while the Panthers are ranked 253rd).

Meanwhile, Mexia waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Bison 78-47. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Black Cats had established a 26 point advantage.

Mexia has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Groesbeck, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.

Groesbeck took a serious blow against Mexia in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 86-41. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mexia's Kyran Bedford, who went 10 for 12 on his way to 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.
