Basketball Recap: New Caney Takes a Loss

New Caney had lost 13 straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 2-22 to make it 14. They were beaten by the Caney Creek Panthers 64-22. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-32 back in January.

As for Caney Creek, their win bumped their record up to 16-12. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Jayda Kearney, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in steals (four). Yeiry Zamudio was another key player, putting up 11 points and six assists.

Coming up, New Caney will host The Woodlands at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Highlanders will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Caney Creek, they will take on Conroe at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
