The Aptos Mariners will head out on the road to take on the Soquel Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Aptos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Aptos easily dispatched Presentation on Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Aptos fell just short of San Lorenzo Valley by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mariners have suffered against the Cougars since April 12, 2022.

Aptos saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Fulton, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Fulton has been hot recently, having posted three or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Kailani Aguayo was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Soquel came up short against Santa Cruz on Tuesday, falling 7-1. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Aptos has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. Soquel now has a losing record of 1-2.

Aptos took their victory against Soquel in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Aptos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
