Softball Game Preview: Aptos Mariners vs. San Lorenzo Valley Cougars

The Aptos Mariners will square off against the San Lorenzo Valley Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Aptos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Aptos took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Scotts Valley.

Mya Najera-White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits.

On the hitting side, Kailani Aguayo was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lilly Mcgee was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, San Lorenzo Valley made easy work of Soquel on Tuesday and carried off a 15-9 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.

Aptos' victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for San Lorenzo Valley, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
