Baseball Recap: Chambers Cougars vs. West Mecklenburg Hawks
Chambers extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They lost 15-4 to the West Mecklenburg Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, with their most recent defeat being a 21-0 loss back in March.
Chambers saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caron Haywood, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI. Noah Young Lao was another, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for West Mecklenburg, their win bumped their record up to 12-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by 11 runs or more this season.
On West Mecklenburg's side, Anthony Echevarria was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The Hawks are 9-1 when Echevarria posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Godeson Hakim, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Coming up, Chambers will look to defend their home field on the 22nd against West Charlotte at 6:00 p.m. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.58 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for West Mecklenburg, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 6-1 victory against Garinger on the 14th.
