 Goretti is ranked highly in their home state and   on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Jefferson. The Goretti Gael fell victim to a  tough 7-1 loss at the hands of the Jefferson Cougars. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest  runs Goretti has scored all season.
 Goretti saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Will Oates, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 1-for-2.
 Even though they lost, Goretti  didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and  finished the game with 13  strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only tossed eight.
 On Jefferson's side,  Ryan Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks.
 Goretti's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Jefferson, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
 Goretti will look to defend their home field  on Monday against McDonogh at 4:30  p.m. Goretti is on a 13-game streak of home wins, McDonogh a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Jefferson will take on Washington at 6:00  p.m.  on Friday. Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.3  runs per game  this season.
