Football Recap: Cordova Starts Season with Victory on the Road + How To Watch

Cordova had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sheldon Huskies on Friday, sneaking past 13-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lancers have posted since August 30, 2024.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed seven in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Makhai Stewart, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

One reason for the win was Cordova's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Julian Drahn with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

Cordova wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 18-13 loss against Mesa Verde on the 29th. As for Sheldon, they have also already played their next game, a 36-0 defeat against River City on the 29th.
