Baseball Recap: Columbia Roughnecks vs. Sweeny Bulldogs
Columbia extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 14-13-2 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sweeny Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 on April 1st.

Grant Thrasher was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Thrasher was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Columbia: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 10-12-2 otherwise.
As for Sweeny, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-10-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.
On Sweeny's side, Holt Blessing was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Blessing has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Ellis, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
