Softball Recap: Caldwell Hornets vs. Giddings Buffaloes

Caldwell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 11-3 to the Giddings Buffaloes. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buffaloes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Samone Clark was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Mayzi Witherwax made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Brynn Morton also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Caldwell now has a losing record of 12-13-1. As for Giddings, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-8.

While Caldwell had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
