Softball Recap: Homewood Comes Up Short

Homewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 last Saturday.

Anne Hope Howell was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk).

At the plate, Kloeanne Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season. Abigail Box was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Homewood's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for John Carroll Catholic, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

When Homewood and John Carroll Catholic next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Homewood will challenge Parker and their four-game winning streak at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, John Carroll Catholic will try to stop Moody's nine-game winning streak when they meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
