Basketball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Comes Up Short

Mt. Pleasant has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-57 heartbreaker at the hands of the Summertown Eagles. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Pleasant lost on Friday, don't look at Ryan Benderman. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 16 en route to 20 points and six boards. Jakyri McClure was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Mt. Pleasant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Kurt Burleson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 34 points and 12 boards for Summertown. What's more, Burleson also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cole Campbell, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Mt. Pleasant's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Summertown, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Mt. Pleasant will challenge Battle Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Pleasant is facing Battle Creek at the right time seeing as Battle Creek is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Summertown, they will take on Loretto at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Loretto will roll in looking for their 19th straight win, something Summertown surely won't give up without a fight.
