Softball Game Preview: Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets vs. Becker Bulldogs

The Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets will face off against the Becker Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Cambridge-Isanti sitting on nine straight wins dating back to last season and Becker on four.

Cambridge-Isanti will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Chisago Lakes Area, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bluejackets came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 4-1 on Monday.

Mackenzie Brooks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cambridge-Isanti's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Amiya Polzin, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Polzin's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Becker sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Zimmerman on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Thunder since May 4, 2017.

Cambridge-Isanti's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Becker, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Cambridge-Isanti skirted past Becker 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Bluejackets repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
