Baseball Recap: Emerald Victorious

Emerald was forced to take a big defeat against Laurens on Monday, they got the better of them on Wednesday. The Vikings never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Raiders on Monday, they had to take a 10-0 loss.

The result came thanks to Finn Howard's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Emerald is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eli Swancey, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Holden Styron was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Emerald's victory bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Laurens, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-16.

Emerald will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Raiders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
