Softball Game Preview: Ogemaw Heights Falcons vs. Farwell Eagles

The Ogemaw Heights Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Farwell Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Ogemaw Heights has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Farwell will arrive with three straight wins.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Ogemaw Heights challenged Shepherd on Tuesday. The Falcons fell 11-6 to the Bluejays.

Caleigh Brindley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. MaKenzie Benjamin also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Farwell). Everything went their way against Beaverton on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-3 victory. Considering the Eagles have won four games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lindsay Esterline made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allena Wunderlich, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karleigh Ames, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.

Farwell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beaverton only managed seven hits.

Farwell's record is now 7-5. As for Ogemaw Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
