Basketball Recap: Chloe Svarvari's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Overton over Amherst

Overton and Amherst squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Overton had to settle for second. They fell 47-39 to the Amherst Broncos. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Broncos earlier this season, when they won 40-35.

Overton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Chloe Svarvari, who posted four points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Kyla Elfgren was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 38 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matches.

Amherst found their leader in freshman Addy Simmons, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 22 boards. Another player making a difference was AnnDee Jaixen, who scored 16 points.

Overton's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Amherst, they pushed their record up to 13-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Overton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Amherst, they will head out to square off against Wilcox-Hildreth at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
