Volleyball Recap: Belton Pirates vs. Northeast Vikings
Belton proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Northeast Vikings. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 back in April.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (109-94) Belton actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 27-25, 25-23, 7-25, 15-11.
Zane Richard paced Belton's offense, picking up seven kills. Richard got some help from Josue Hinojos and his 24 assists. Hinojos was also solid from the service line: he led the team with five aces.
Belton has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-13-3 record this season. As for Northeast, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 11-7-2 record.
After both having extra time off, Belton and Raymore-Peculiar will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Northeast, they are taking a road trip to challenge East at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
