Recap: Stevenson Ambassadors vs. Fordham Prep Rams

The Stevenson Ambassadors had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They rang in the new year with a 58-48 victory over Fordham Prep. The win was all the more spectacular given Stevenson's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while Fordham Prep is ranked 111th).

When it comes to explaining why Fordham Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matthew Kapfer. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. The match was Kapfer's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Charles Panarella was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Stevenson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Fordham Prep, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stevenson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Monroe Campus at 5:00 p.m. on January 4th. Monroe Campus has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 518 points over their last eight games. As for Fordham Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against LaSalle Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
