New Haven barely beat Merritt Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rockets blew past the Mustangs 16-1 on Wednesday. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Lamar Pearson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, New Haven got a massive performance out of Will Bosco, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Lucas Lorber was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

New Haven hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.

New Haven's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Merritt Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Haven will venture away from home to face off against Yale at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Merritt Academy, they will take on Hazel Park at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
