Basketball Recap: Monacan Victorious

Monacan entered their tilt with Meadowbrook on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 70-69 win over the Meadowbrook Monarchs. Given the Chiefs' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Monarchs are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Amare Cooper continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 12 en route to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. Promyse Dent was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points.

Monacan's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Meadowbrook, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
