Basketball Recap: Millard Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Millard and Water Canyon squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Millard had to settle for second. They fell to the Water Canyon Wildcats 47-42. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 61-32.

Despite the loss, Millard saw an underclassman step up: freshman Blakelie Davies posted 27 points in addition to six boards and four steals. That was a full 64.3% of Millard's points, marking the fourth time in a row Davies has earned more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Millard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Leading Water Canyon to victory were Alysha Cooke and Martha Jessop. Cooke dropped a double-double with 13 points and 23 rebounds, while Jessop dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Jessop also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Water Canyon is 4-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 4-11 otherwise. Joann Barlow was another key player, putting up four points and five steals.

Millard has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Water Canyon, their record is now 8-12.

Millard does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Water Canyon, they have already played their next game, a 68-24 defeat against North Summit on the 14th.
